I have a stand that is 17 1/4" wide. I like a tank that's 18" wide. Can I add a 3/4" piece of wood to make the stand 18" wide? If so, does it have to be a long piece of plywood going from the floor to the top?

What size tank is this going to be? Weight will be the determining factor for what will be necessary for this.

Alot of the 18" wide tanks I like are between 35-45 gallons. The stand is 36" long.

Why not add the plywood to the top of the stand? You could trim it to match the stand.
