Hi all, my fauna Marin icp tests came back and indicated that my tanks are low on iodine. It suggested to dose 18ml, how many drops if I use the Lugols idione do I need? Thanks

Iodine in a reef tank depletes relatively quickly. You would need to dose daily or weekly while carefully monitoring levels and avoiding over-dosing. 18ml of Fauna Marin Iodine to Lugols Iodine would require you to match based on concentration... IMO not worth the effort for a one time "fix"

thanks, am aware of the first portion of the info, but just someone to point out what would be the dosing amount by using lugols iodine as suggested by fauna Marin at 18ml.

I have a 120 and 70g, a quick search some reefers dose about 2 drops weekly if that sounds about right for you”maintenance” dose

Lugols is not my favorite I additive since it reacts with other trace elements and changes them, but standard Lugols is available is multiple concentrations.

Which exact brand are you using?

Randy,
Is Seachem or other brand you recommend? My ICP results today show I have 25.46 ug/l and aim for 80 ug/l. I have been using Brightwell's Lugols - Iodine 1,500mg/oz (50,000ppm). I have Seachem Reef Iodide (8,000 mg/l).

Here’s a copy from the diy archive in the chem forum:

Potassium iodide is 77% iodine by weight.

If you target 0.02 ppm to dose, then you will want to add 0.02 mg iodide per liter of aquarium water.

That means dosing 0.025 mg of the KI per liter or 2.5 mg/100 L of aquarium water.

You won't likely be able to weight that small of an amount, so make a stock dosing solution.

Dissolve 1 g KI in 1 L RO/DI. That solution contains 1 mg KI per mL.

So 2.5 mL of that solution added per 100 L of aquarium water will boost iodine by 0.02 ppm. :)

I think you can dose this at least a couple of times a week in a typical tank. Targeting 0.06 ppm dosed once or maybe twice a week is also fine.

I also did an ICP with FM 2 weeks ago and my iodine can in critical low. Im dosing TM trace and do weekly WC with RC which has a claim of high iodine. So I’m questioning the results.

Muchas gracias.
