question on pipefish mating?

so i have some pipefish....... in my display i have a flameback or fame pipe and also a regular blue and yellow pipe. any way i noticed awhile ago that they were acting like they were paired up as i feed or just watch my display and never really thought about it until now. the flame is probably about 8in long and the blue about 4-5. yesterday i noticed that the blue has a huge bulge on his belly......could these two really mate? i wanted more opinions

they ended up hatching i only saw 2 as the fish were pickin them off but they were mostly clearish black. so i guess i will never know but hopefully it will happen again. these two never leave eachothers side though its so wierd.
