Hi everyone.

I got a question on one of my first corals, a trachyphyllia. When looking at pictures of this coral, mine seems to be act a bit different.

First, a few pics I just grabbed online:

All seem to have a round edge, folding upwards, like a small bowl.

Below is from when it was new (bottom), A month ago (top right) and just now (top left)

I'm wondering, if placing it on a rock was a mistake?
It does look big and happy and eats whatever and whenever I feed it.

Is it normal for them to just look this big and flat?

Yes. Just looks 'funny' compared to pictures and other trachyphyllia I've seen.
The rim is so much bigger.
I placed a fat tentacle plate on a rock ledge and during the day it hangs over the sides as well (not unlike your example). It may “normalize” if you move it off the rock, but it may also be less than impressed as well.

I guess, It is just how this coral is.
I have been thinking of moving it, but for now I'll just let it be where it is. It seems happy enough, and have other stuff to worry about.
