Hi,
Question on compatibility: I currently have 2 sixline wrasse (been with me for 2-3 years), and 2 melanerus weasse (one fully grown female, one slightly smaller male). All four in different tanks at the moment.
I am setting up a 550 gallon tank in the mext couple of weeks with plenty of rock. What are my chances of possibly housing all four together in that tank? I can still separate them as I will have multiple frag tanks, but am curious if there is any chance for them to mingle? Or at lease one of each species in there (a sixline and a melanurus will mix ok?)
Lastly, any chance I can mix in any other (reefsafe) wrasses in? A flasher or leopard of some sort?
Thanks for your feedback!

I wouldn’t risk it and have the sixlines as “pest” removal in the frag tanks then have the two mels and other wrasses in the large tank. @SaltyT and @Crabby48 may be able to help some more.
Personally I’d recommend a couple of Leopards, an Anampses or two and then some other Halichoeres, Paracheilinus and Cirrhilabrus.

I can’t see it working for long. Eventually they will pick each other of, jump, or waste away from stress. That’s a big tank and many great wrasse to worry about mixing two big jerks and two aggressive melanurus.
If you are willing to try then ok but be ready to pull fish or loose some of thing escalate fast.

thanks for the recommendation. So would you still think it’s ok to have two melanurus in the tank, as long as I leave the sixlines out of the equation? And with that Am I safe to add other wrasses? (Of any family)?
Thanks!

Wrasse typically don’t pair but in a 500 gallon tank they may do ok. They roam hunting and think as they mature it would be a problem. It’s something we don’t do knowing the outcome is usually bad. If you try would love to hear the out come down the road.
