Questions about used tank

This tank is for sale near me. I had questions about the model but they didn’t have an answer. It’s a redsea 425 xl with extras. I talked them down in price to 800. No powerheads but nice lights as well

How old is it.
As you will know there's been a lot of seals breaking on the red sea tanks. I don't know if you're model has the same problems . But if I did buy it I would think of resealing it . If you're going to reseal it get him down some more on price . The problem is if you don't reseal and have a lovely reef doing well then a seam goes your in trouble

It’s likely a G1 and consider the purchase a risk
Look at seals for bubbles and evidence of re-sealing

I would personally skip this tank, I don't believe it's worth $800. Everything looks well used, and many R2R members wouldn't take a Red Sea tank even if free due to the failures, and I think especially so if this is a used G1. I would wait for another deal.

Just being a red sea tank is enough to make me walk away G1 or G2 doesn't matter they are both getting reports of failure.


This is enough to make me run away.

My reefer 170 seam failed in an upper corner.





I found a new home for it tho

that seam looks terrible, and I personally owned and got rid of the same tank because I didn't like the stress it was causing me, wondering when it would fail.

That tank is good for snakes.

Yes looking at that top corner I’d say it’s a definite no no
