Quick Question- Undulate Trigger?

Hello! New 2 R2R.
Just wondering, I've got a Maroon Clown, Six Line Wrasse and Filefish in my 55g. I have green star polyps & 1 ruby red crab aswell! I was thinking, if I could get a Undulate Trigger and add it to the tank? I know theyre aggresive, and would need a larger tank soon but do you think I could handle it for now?

3 nigers 1 undulated and 1 sargassum/ or called a red tail trigger. Similiar to blue throats with color and temperament except they don't have the blue patch and have a partial red tail.

Me too!! I plan to add a niger trigger to my tank (I really love them!!) and have the clown and niger together

Like clown triggers, undulates vary a bit in how aggressive they are. You lucked out though, because overall, undulates are much more aggressive than the average clown. I won't keep one except as a singleton.

Trigger growth also seems variable, but I don't know why; I've had a few Rhinecanthus that hardly grew over a few year's time, while others in the same system grew at what I considered a "normal" rate. All the fish looked good and ate great, just some didn't grow fast......weird.

Undulates can work with other fish in large public aquarium type tanks. I've also seen them tolerate damsels and dottybacks in very large home aquariums (probably couldn't catch them more than anything).

In a 55g you not only couldn't keep the trigger long term, but you absolutely cannot expect to have any of your other fish survive.

Undulated is one of the nastier of the group and one that took skin off my finger. Also one of the prettiest but they have teeth and will use it when needed

I have kept 1 niger that was 1.2 inches, 1 under 1 inch, 2 rectangles, one 2 inches and the other under 1 inch, and then I kept a Picasso that much under an inch but a rock fell on him. Again, 55g is small but my dad and I are going to get a big tank soon (100-125g) so i would transport the trigger. Any triggers that would work in 55 for now? Or any cool/unique fish fora 55?

Only 1 inch when i got it. It's like 3 inches now. About 5 inches is when they say attitudes change. We'll see. Unfortunately the miniatus passed away, but these two were buddies when they were together. Holed up together all the time.

So cool!!! Ugh you make me wish I kept my blue line trigger (fucus)!! But he got in a fight with my Ivar my jeweled moray over food and I was like nope they are going to get hurt or die so I had to return the trigger. My clown is a good boy, he doesnt bother the eels and they dont mind him

No. Sargassum and my smallest niger are in my 265 gallon. Sargassum was always there and I moved my smallest niger there 2 months ago. The undulated started picking it on it. The 3 nigers were a trio, didn't school but were always swimming together.

That might change as it gets older. Hopefully not for you. I learned along time ago a puffer is gonna puff and a trigger is gonna trig out. Lol way it goes

Most triggers grow in aggression as they mature. Niger are one of the more calmer ones. I have a clown trigger almost 9" and only two years old and now I had to sump him as he thinks its cool to knock coral off its base and spit it out where he pleased. I just also caught him biting a couple of play polyps and spitting it out also

That must be a big sump. I have an orange shoulder tang that picks up shells and makes piles on the far end of the tank. Took me forever to figure out what was going on.

I have had only 1 and it lived up to its reputation. They realy belong in a large tank with aggressive species. It will bite the hand that feeds it!

In a 55 not really. Each trigger is it's own personality so you never know what you're going to get. But cramming them in a small tank and not giving them their space is asking for trouble. Especially with the live stock you already have. Blue throats, red tails, pink tail. nigers are your easier ones, but anything less than 90 gallons you're asking for trouble. I know its not what you want to hear but I have 5 triggers at the moment and have kept others through the years.

Maybe a dwarf lion until you upgrade, but that might be pushing it with the small fish you already have. Most of the unique fish eat small fish or are jerks. Triggers, lions, eelsangels? What about a dwarf angel?

Any one besides fuscus, clown, Titan, and queen. And I'm stressing 90 is for a small juvenile and you will need to upgrade sometime in the future. Just cause a fish fits doesn't mean it should be in that tank. Don't cramp a fish just cause you want one. Personally I wouldnt stick a fish like that in anything less than 6 feet.

I wouldnt wait too long to add the niger. If the clown is aggressive as it's older it might not like new additions. Once again....triggers each to.their own personality.
