Sorry for yet another G5-thread, but i have not seen this discussed in detail.

I had a single hope for G5: passive cooling.
Noise level is critical as my tank is in the living room and my wife is... a wife. I keep hearing that the G5 fan is "quieter" than the previous versions, but not much more than that.
Can you hear it at all? Is it always running as long as the lamp is lit? Does it turn on/off from temp sensor? Does it vary RPM from temp sensor input?
If it varies, at what power setting does it ramp up to the point where you can hear it from a few meters? (given "normal" ambient temp levels)

Maxed lights and fan kicks on in a minute or two. Stays on. It is an audible hum from across a room without background noise.

Low light settings I will be using around 30% the fan I dont think has turned on.

Not sure of fan is an all or none speed. Didnt notice but i did notice it on.

Me too, to go between two g5 xr 30s
Why mix the two lights? I can understand using either but, mixing these two particular fixtures seems like a recipe for making even consistent lighting more difficult, not less. I supplement my existing older Radion Pros with t-5s but, for the specific purpose of making lighting levels more consistent and reducing shadowing. Not really sure mixing two similar LED panels will accomplish much.....
