I have Radions XR15 as primary lighting over a mixed reef. It is starts to go on at 11am and turns full off by 9pm. My question is I just purchased Reefbrite XHO for added pop for color and I love it but it is either Full on or full OFF. Is there any benefit or hurt at running Reefbrite XHO starting at say 12noon when my light intensity peaks and leaving it on until about 8PM. Or is there an ideal time periods that actinics provide the most benefit. I searched and not really able to find anything. Any input would be great from anyone with long term experience on the lights.

Thanks R2R

How high above tank is it?

It will definitely add par.

I would acclimate the tank to it just like a t5. Slowly increase the time and watch the corals.

Could be bad, could be the best thing you’ve ever done. Honestly.

Thanks for the input. The Reefbrite xHO is right at the same level as the radions mounted on the RMS mounts. The reefbrites are angled towards the back of the tank slightly as to not cause any glare from the front of the tank. I am going to monitor the corals for sure. I did lower the XR15 intensity about 5 percent as to compensate so the corals won’t feel too much added light. I’ll see how it goes. My XR15s are also on diffusers and on 55% brightness. I’ll see how they do in the next few days. The tank is RSR250 with 2 XR15 Pros. Any other feedback welcomed. Thanks for helping out a new reefer.

Great. I still have it. The added pop in colors really make the corals look nice.

I don’t have a par meter so I really don’t have any way of measuring. I’m sure I saw a thread that had some numbers on the XHO though. You can probably look it up on here.

What generation are you running? I currently have two g3 xr15's over one IM nuvo 30 L, then a g4 xr15 with a xr15 blue over another 30 L and I can clearly see the spread difference from gen3 to gen4. I was thinking about adding what u have to my gen3's. I don't think the g4, g5blue tank " needs" more blue, but after watching the brs360 that spread would boost the older g3's.

I don’t really have it for boosting performance Per se. I have a lot left on the xr15s if I needed more par. I have the xr15s on low intensity maybe 35-40% so it’s purely for the added blue. I’ve heard that the g3 were more “blue” than the G4 being more “purple”. I could be wrong. Maybe someone can confirm that.
