I’ve had my nem for about 7-8 months now and for the past 3-4 weeks it’s been closed during the day and only comes out at night, albeit, deflated. I haven’t seen him inflate in 3-4 weeks. I recently started running gfo in the tank. Could that have something to do with it? My hammer and acans have been doing extremely well. Could it be a lighting thing? It hasn’t moved though which is surprising. I don’t know what to do...

Nems are weird. If it starts looking melty, remove it from the tank. It may just be looking for a new spot or adjusting to the gfo. A lot of reefers advise starting with half the “dose” of gfo for your tank bc it can affect things right off the bat and cause bacterial blooms. You can try removing half the gfo and see if that helps or just run with it and see if the nem re-settles. I hope it works out!

I've read other people have similar issues with gfo and nems.

I might just remove it since it’s not really helping with anything. EDIT: how would one know if the nem is melting?

Most corals wont like it at zero. Id take the gfo offline until it rebounds.

Yep I would cut the gfo for now. You will def know if the nem starts melting. It falls apart, gets mushy, gaping mouth, loss of tentacles etc.

Nice, thank you. Hopefully the nem rebounds, I really, really don’t need to worry about the nem currently (just realized I had velvet in my tank )

My nems react to any and all changes in water chemistry......

And usually negatively.....

As Run DMC would say.... Because it’s like that, and that’s the way it is......

He’s making a turnaround... He’s open before the lights have started to dim .
