I‘m just in the process of finalising the plumbing on my algae reactor. It’s hard plumbing from the pump with a small piece of soft plumbing to the inlet and the hard plumbing from the outlet to the sump with a soft plumbing tail into the sump.

I was testing it for leaks and wondering if i should have a check valve to stop water flowing back when I turn the pump off for maintenance.

Do others have this and if so, where should I put it?

Without seeing a complete diagram - its impossible to know whether its necessary - or where to put it? It doesn't seem to me that there woudl be any 'damage' if a small bit of water back flowed into your reactor. What is your concern?

I was more concerned with water being siphoned from one chamber to another and potentially overflowIing.

Having done some testing, it doesn’t look like this will happen so I think I’ll be ok.
