My Melanurus wrasse has been in my 20 long while Ive been working on my 40 breeder. I think its time to move him over. I just did some tests, PH on both is 8.0, temp 78, but salinity on the 20 is 1.023, on the 40 its 1.024. Will that hurt? Or do they need to match exact? Also is 8.0 PH fine? Everything has been doing fine, should I try to change it to 8.2? Thanks.

A salinity difference that small is not a problem IMO. I don't worry about pH at all in regard to fish transfers, just temp and salinity.

pH of 8.0 is fine for a reef tank. Don't start chasing pH, especially with buffers/additives. If low pH is a concern, increase surface agitation or run an airline from outside to your skimmer (if you have one). Lowering CO2 is the only thing I would do to alter pH.
