Reagent prices going through the roof!!

Has anyone else noticed that the reagent refills are getting crazy expensive lately? There seems to always be a sale going on but every week it seems like they are raising the prices. Not really a sale at that point.

Regents are chemicals that are mostly imported from other countries. The dollar is not worth what it use to be in the world stage anymore.
Too much fraud waste and abuse in our government and over spending for way too many years.
For the first time in history the interest on our national debt is going to exceed our national defense budget, not a good sign.

It's sad that the hobby seems to get a little more out of reach to more people every year. I hope things get better so more people can enjoy this amazing hobby as much as I do! Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the way it's going.

I have noticed changes but wouldn’t say they have become crazy expensive. What is an example of the cost increase you are are talking about?

I’ve found buying in bulk trims down the cost a bit. The issue is making sure you use it before it goes bad.

You pay the price of convenience with Hanna checkers.

Many elements/chemicals are mined and supplied from overseas. It's going to keep going higher for next few years with more tariffs enacted. This will push some people out of the hobby or just not test as often.

Yes, there was a bump up recently, but just one. There has been a bunch of sales lately with free shipping. I took advantage needless to say.

You would think with the high cost of everything in this hobby (we put out $50-75 for a single ICP test!) we wouldn’t notice a couple dollar increase on a refill. If you have a milligram scale, it is possible to run the Hanna tests at half scale, splitting the reagents for a 5 mL sample. It takes more time, but makes sense if you have more time than money. :-)

I mean. It’s already priced out. Let’s face it. I mean I am an upper middle class family guy and it took me approximately a year to get my 125g off the ground by buying part by part. Buying off the rip, soup to nuts for a large tank is oppressive.

I’d be really really surprised if anything happening on the world stage is responsible for these reagents being worth approximately five times their weight in silver.

My assumption is we’re seeing vendors (throughout the supply chain) raising prices to try to maintain profits following drop off in reefing post-covid.

Same. With so many reefers consistently getting out of hobby, there is so much used equipments available. But most people do not have the patience to wait a year to source them.

It's so much easier to just buy everything new...Click Click, load up the cart, and boom it's at your door next week! LOL.

The constant advertising of items we absolutely cannot do without doesn't help the new reefers with starting a thank. It's even overwhelming for me and I've been in the hobby for awhile.
