recently i’ve been noticing my scoly receding and i’m not sure why.. I’ve been feeding it mysis & reef roids 2-3 times per week. i’m concerned if it can be due to my phosphates if they can be affected by it significantly however my other corals around it look perfectly fine so i just moved it to a lower flow area.

Scollies can do this even in perfect water conditions.
I can’t keep them beyond a year at most. They are sourced from cooler waters with a high silt content.

If everything else is happy, not much you can do.

Higher nutrient levels can stunt growth but over long periods of time.

Sorry for the trouble you’re having! Beautiful Scoly you got there.

What are your water parameters?

Any fish/inverts that you think may be bothering it?

I would lay off the feeding for now. I would also only feed at night or when feeder tentacles are out.

i just heard about the the cooler water, however they’re from Australia which is going to have cooler water compared to all the corals from indonesia. I keep my tank at 78 but i just knocked it down to 77 which i’m not sure if that’s going to do anything detrimental to my other corals. But i can understand the higher nutrients i’ve been battling it for a while and i just got a gfo reactor and been dosing nopox for sometime now so i really hope that can turn things around.

yeah i didn’t know about how they filter feed at night that was when i first got it so since i always wake up before my lights are on that’s when ill feed it. I did add a small emerald crab when i started to see bubble algae in my tank and i do noticed him hanging around it sometimes but never like picking at it or anything.

Some claim Scollies in their aquaria have been happy for many years.

Just no luck 6 times. Maybe just me.

So they are off my list until I understand what exactly, I’m doing wrong.

If feeding tentacles come out every night, that’s a great plus.
