I am planning to build a simple "hood" to protect my electrical panel under my tank which occasionally gets hit from above with drips/spray.

Below is my crude drawing.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on the best plastic sheet to use.

I would like to cut with a utility knife and glue with PVC cement.

I was thinking of using expanded foam PVC either 1/8" or 1/4".

I was curious if anyone had any better suggestions?

Thanks

You might look at FRP ( Fiber Reinforced Plastic) as used in a lot of bathrooms. I used it to skin my stand. It is very inexpensive cuts with a knife, can be bent. I don’t remember what I used to glue it with though. May have been super glue. Home Depot and Lowe’s carry it.

I would also say a trip to home depot, lowes, or menards should find a product that will work. I had gotten some 4'x8' plastic sheeting from home depot that cut with a knife to use to protect the inside of my canopy from water splashes.

I like to be able to see through things like that. I'd use some 1/4" acrylic and WeldOn 4 (water like) or 16 (gel - easier to use but not as nice looking results)

Ha, I did think of that but then I figured that's another thing I would have to keep wiping clean. But you're right visibility is important.

Well, the expanded PVC is coming on Sunday. I'll see how it goes. I've never worked with it. We'll see. Though I do like the clear acrylic idea too.

Use Oatey's clear (medium) and you will be good to go. DO NOT use purple primer!!! It'll look like somebody spilled grape koolaid all over the place
