I recently got a red knob starfish and I looked up a care guide and it says it should not be kept with puffer fish with no explanation and I have a blue spotted puffer in my tank is it ok to have both or should I remove one?

I have a 2” peacock toby puffer with my 4-5” chocolate chips and theyre left alone, as are my large conchs. How big is the puffer and starfish?

Puffers like to go for tube feet on stars and urchins, so that is the main risk

Puffer is around 4 inches starfish is maybe 6 inches across

Maybe get a chocolate chip first (cheaper and easier to source as a common feeder) and see how it reacts to that? Id worry about the size difference, my scenario is a baby puff and a large star and larger puffers can do some damage to most surfaces.
Even if mine turns on them he can’t do much to them that can’t be fixed fairly easily

HOW MUCH DOES A FISH’S FEEDING REQUIREMENTS AFFECT YOUR STOCKING DECISIONS?

  • Not at all. Feeding demands don’t limit my stocking choices

  • I usually learn about the demanding feeding schedule after buying the fish!
