Red Line Wrasse Owners... Do they jump?

Ok so I know the mantra that wrasses are jumpers in general, but I'm curious to know if anyone has had specifically a Red Lined Wrasse jump...

I've got one in QT currently (covered) but need to know if i need to invest in a screen for my DT.

All fish can jump.

I feel it's the responsibility of every aquarist to provide a safe environment for the creatures we keep. That means having a secure mesh lid on every fish tank.

Wrasses are known as prolific jumpers. Halicheores(assuming you are referring to H. biocellatus) arent as jumpy as others like cirrhilabrus but mine does bounce off the mesh from time to time.

I would never have an open top tank with any wrasse in it. In fact, I've learned the hard way, that I will never have an open top tank with any fish in it. My frag tank is open top, but corals don't generally jump...

H. biocellatus would be more apt to dive for the sand when startled.

In general, it's always best to have a cover, but it's up to you how much risk you're okay with.

I have no experience with that particular species but in my experience if it's a wrasse it will jump. It's not a question of if, but a question of when.

i've never had to rescue mine from the overflow and seems she goes for the sandbed when she's scared, but i wouldn't risk it. although i wouldn't risk it with any fish

Mine jumped, had pictures of him in the wrasse Id thread, h biocellatus. There was zero jumping until I put a Tomini tang in the tank, the tang is constantly zipping around like a maniac and when he does it, he spooks the other fish with his darting around. I also had lids on my tank and the wrasse managed to lift a small piece of plastic that I had the cords routed through. I hope to have another fish that was as cool as he was, wasn't afraid of anything normal, he would be out during water changes and sand vacuuming like I was his hunting partner stirring up pods for him. If the Tomini tang didn't eat algae like it owed him money he would be gone, he's a basket case. Get a good lid, I made DIY lids for my tank and made one of them an inch short so I could put a strip of plastic with slots for powerhead cords, lesson learned. This is in a standard 75 gallon 4ft tank.

Mine jumped twice while I was doing maintenance. Fortunately he wasn't injured and is still thriving. This is what he will look like when a mature terminal male.

Mine hasnt jumped, but have a net top.
@saltyhog nice to see the terminal phase :). Mine is still a juvy.
Did have another member of the genus(radiant) jump down my overflow weir.

I have net covers too but had them off while working in the tank both times he jumped. Mine looked like yours when I got him. This is him in QT.

Okay you guys have convinced me. When my Melanurus goes the way of all the earth, I am going to replace it with a Red Lined. Gorgeous Fish.

All wrasses jump. You need a cover for your DT.

Mine's on day 4 of QT so I have alot of time to get a cover. I'll take a picture of him when I get home, he's really cool, but I got him to help control future pests. It's very disconcerting when they hide in the sand, its almost like they magically disappear and reappear!

They dive in so fast it's actually pretty difficult to get to see it, but when you do it is kind of cool to watch how quickly they just dive in. Never had H. biocellatus, but I do have a H. Claudia ;)

Mine took a good month to get used to my lighting schedule, but i also picked him up about an hour after he landed from Micronesia.

Yeah, the LFS had him as a Christmas wrasse, I put the pics in the wrasse ID thread. He was changing colors and I had no clue they could do that, the blue on him is normally green and the bars on his tail were normally not that visible. I thought I was either seeing things or something was wrong with my lights haha. SW noob.
