I just joined as a member just to inform you of the disaster that happened to me 3 days ago (yes, during Christmas. Talking about bad timing!).
In 2020 I bought a Red Sea Peninsula (500 liter), as a replacement of my old tank. Reading all the horror stories about seams failures I kept a close eye on them, but never saw anything out of the usual.
Then three days ago, in the evening, we suddenly heard a bit of water falling on the floor and within 2 seconds we had a waterfall in the living room. The bottom seam of one of the large sides had cracked open over an area of about 20 - 30 centimetres. The tank was completely empty within 5 minutes.
Even though we had large plastic containers just in case, we haven’t been able to save any of the fish or corals. We managed to catch most of them and get them in the container, but by the time we could catch them they were already damaged and in shock that they didn’t make it until the next morning.
I don’t know if I will get a new tank again, as I never want to go through this again. But if I do get a new tank I would NEVER buy a Red Sea tank again in my life. And I was a big RS fan before this happened!
Btw: the attached video was made when the tank was almost empty…
