Hi

I’m new to sumps and just upgraded my tank and equipment… I have a main return, overflow and pump pipe (3pipes)…
Do I just connect the reef at directly to the return or put a T-piece in and connect like that?

I assume you mean “main drain”
Best bet is to plumb 2 of your drain pipes directly to the Reefmat.
T-fitting increases the chances of a clog maybe by a snail or something which would mean a flood. Just be safe and so 2 drains.

One drain should be the main drain the other emergency. I have the main drain going to the roller and just leave the emergency drain alone. I set my flow so there is just a trickle going down the emergency drain so it isn't enough unfiltered water to matter.

Thanks… and you set your level via the height of the emergency drain? Not a ball valve on main drain and pump output?

The ball valve on the main drain will raise and lower the level in the over flow so yes you use it to set the water level in the overflow. I have two tanks set up like this with two drain. I adjust the main drain so the level is just below the emergency drain or barley trickling into it. If you get too much flow in the emergency it makes things noisy,at least in setups I'm running it does. A gate valve make adjusting easier but a ball valve will works. A gate valve just allows finer adjustments.

How are people supporting the pips in the sump?
Mines just dry fitted at min hanging.
