Hey reefers, looking for some advice. I'm looking to buying the reefer 170 for a mixed reef. Suggestions on lighting, protein skimmer, return pump and anything else I may need that doesn't come with the reefer package. Thanks

When you say mixed reef what species do you have in mind?
A mixed reef tests all abilities to keep species happy and well.

Just set up a 350. Went for bubble magus curve 5 skimmer. Bubble magus mini 70 reactor for phosphate removal. Replaced the bubble trap foam with ceramic rings for nitrate removal. Went for jebao wave maker and return pump. Wave maker is a bit noisy to begin with but calms down after a day. Was using rowaphos in the reactor but it keeps clogging so will review this and go for a larger media. Was lookinh at the kessil ap700 for lighting but couldnt justify the price tag so went for ilumensir 1200 instead. Everything i bought is working extremely well. First tank i have had with a sump so was a bit wary at first but no regrets on any of the purchases so far.

I tried the Rowaphos in a reactor and also had this issue. To fix it, I took a nylon and put a half a cup of GFO and toss it in my media try in my sump and no more GFO in the Tank. I also switch away from Rowaphos to Phosphate minus with you do not have to rise it and better price.

Go with one Hydra 26 Hd for lighting

Lighting depends all on you(personally leds would be great considering the dimensions on the tank). For a skimmer i would go with something rated for a 50-100 gallon tank(vertex omega 130-150, nyos 120-160). For return it depends on what your trying to spend. I would go with a larger dc option if you want to run a manifold and or reactor.

Thank you, I was thinking on going with the jebao also save a little money, I have one now in my biocube and it does the job.
