Red Sea S 400 Max 110G

Been about 4 years since I left the hobby when I moved back to Brooklyn NY but I’m back in west Palm FL.
So I started again by buying a used Red Sea been back in the hobby for about 3 months so tank is about 3 months old I work part time in an aquarium shop with my boss having a phd in marine biology here are the current specs:

Red Sea S 400 Max 110g-

Equipment:

Lighting- 2 RL popbloom 90s

Pump- 2000GPH with dual nozzle return

Circulation- 2 Sicce nano pumps in overflow with aqua gadget spin nozzles on back wall

Heating controller- Inkbird ITC-306A V4.0

Heaters- 2 BRS titanium 500w heaters

Neptune Apex A2-

RODI:

7 stage BRS RODI

32 gallon rodi container for fresh water 850gph pump for retrieval

32 gallon salt water mixing station with 300w heater 850gph pump for mixing and retrieval

AF Salt

Sump- Red Sea sump custom plumbing (done by me).
Skimmer- Octo 130 Essence (with modified drain line for easy quick draining)

Sump Lighting- Hygger Full spectrum programmable lighting

In Sump power head- 800gph Amazon power head to help move detritus and add more flow for chaeto in next chamber

In Sump bubble trap- 20ppi sponge below hygger lighting to hold chaeto for nutrient export and pod habit as well as missed debris/bubbles below is rubble beneficial bacteria surface area and pod habit

Copepod breeding tank 4 gallon cube with 50w heater rubble chaeto and sponge filter dosing with RF phytofeast 3 drops every other day

I still stayed behind in Brooklyn

Finally I see someone has the same tank as me. Can you pls share with me your sump layout since I have the same and am trying to see different setups

And I’m wondering how you did your refugium

Also PLSS share with me what kind of light canopy you have for your tank

I still have the old T5 hood and I have 2 hydra52 HD’s and a radion XR30w G4 but can’t find a way to mount them

I created a few threads here the last few weeks asking for anything with this tank to give me an idea on how to mount different lights.

Nice looking tank. I have the same one but a much older version. How well do the aqua gadget spin nozzles work for getting random flow? I dont even use the pumps in my overflow because I wanted random flow so I installed two MP40 on my tank. Now im considering switching to two random flow nozzles. Im not sure why I never even considered using them.

You should use them. It’s something most tanks don’t have. Circulation pumps with out worrying anything getting caught in there I have the older version to What kind of lights do you have ?

I still use the original t5 fixture. I have the bracket to mount led lights but I never switched to leds.

i have the original fixture to
couldn't find way to mount other lights since we have the overflow space which takes away another 4-5 inches from the arm length
i also cant find the upgraded led package for our tank

Very nice setup!!

I really appreciate it it’s been years and I just jumped back into our about six square bio blocks in the sump to help seed it my first livestock this time was a hell fire torch I won didn’t think I would win but luckily it’s healthy and growing was nervous that my thing I put in was coral but it’s thriving I’m happy to be back and learning all I can.

Thank you but I’m here for work for another 5-6 months so I’m not trying to go to crazy with this any equipment I buy I’m taking back and setting up a permanent tank back in my house in Brooklyn (manhattan beach).
So the popbloom 90s are about 1.5” shy of fitting on the canopy that came with the Red Sea so I improvised and get some flat acrylic pieces with the strongest 3M Velcro I can buy so they’re floating above the tank but secure I tested it out they’re not moving anywhere and it allows for the light to go through just need to get a par meter to test and do some cable management.
Hopefully we can connect when I move back permanently.

you have newer led canopy
what media pads do you have in the left front sump shelf and what rocks in the rerun pump section

I bought 6 of these bio plates off Amazon and seeded them with dr tims one and only left them for a month with filtration running to colonize the bio blocks or plates from the big brand names are double the price for just one of these.
I have them next to the skimmer chamber and a $8 power head to keep that area and water surface clean it also helps kick off any dead or weak nitrosoma and nitrobactor beneficial bacteria as well as help provide extra flow to the chaeto in the next chamber. I have chaeto (nutrient export & pod habitat) sitting on top of a 1.6” 20ppi foam sponge that serves as a bubble trap and pod habitat as well as keep the chaeto from running off into the pumps under that I have rubble my coworker gave me to help with beneficial bacteria and act also as a pod habitat followed by a makeshift ziptied eggcrate keeping the rubble from entering the return pump
chamber.
The rocks is not regular rubble most of it pieces of base reef rock.

My filter sock plate broke a while ago. I use the small chamber where you grow the algae for my filter pads

I need to get a new plate for the sock and set up a fudge

I’ve kinda been thinking about cutting my sock holder out and plumbing in a fleece mat and a uv in there just looking up the right flow rate and bulb strength to not over kill the microfuana and pods.

Before you get a roller mat, make sure it could fit in that spot.
