I think he’s trying to avoid the wet skim in order to not remove so much water from his tank.You could add a plastic tube to the drain hole. Running it to a 5 gallon bucket. It might add a little security
I’d just get it dialed in the best I could and then put a hose on the drain tube on the bottom of the cup and put it into a bucket like said above or something. Even with that I would still wanna shut off float on that container because if that thing starts pulling a wet skim I mean, yeah you could literally pull more water out of your tank. Until your skimmer builds up a good film it’s pulling consistencies gonna be off a bit. If your tank’s pretty new, you can just shut it off and it won’t matter if you run it while you’re gone or you could just run it so it’s aerating and not even pushing up hard enough to even put anything into the cup. If you have a variable pump, you can turn the pump down to so it isn’t working as hard. I won’t run a skimmer anymore without a shut off float.
