Reef Octopus BH-1000?

There's a sponge and bubble plate in the return chamber. I noticed the sponge looking pretty nasty and can only imagine it being a nitrate factory. So upon taking it out to clean it I noticed it is loaded with PODS! Both amphipods and copepods. How do I get them into my tank without adding the nasty gunk too??

put it in a tub and suck pods out with a turkey baster... they are too small to screen apart from the detritus.
