Reef Octopus skimmer float switch quick disconnect?

It is a real pain to clean my lid in the sump area since I cannot take it to the sink without completely un-routing the float switch cable from the controller. Has anyone come up with a DIY disconnect? What about a simple spade or bullet connector? I am afarid to cut the wire to try it if it is too thin to handle the connectors.

I have a RO Regal skimmer with a float. I usually push the rubber bushing out of the lid. It's fairly flexible. Then I drop the float switch itself down into the skimmer and let the bubbles clean it off. Then take the cup and lid to the sink and clean as normal.

Genius!!!! This is such an old thread but I was having trouble with this exactly like the OP mentioned. Tried this out and it worked a charm. I can now remove my skimmer cup & lid with ease and not have to worry about un plugging and un routing the switch cable. Thank you!
