So, I was planning on getting a Reef Octopus (SRO2000 or SRO3000) for my 120 gallon. I have been reading a few posts on here about their vertex alpha skimmers (170 or 200) and how great they are. The alpha skimmers a little out of my price range, but if the difference is that noticeable I may see about squeezing out some more money to go in that direction. What is everyone's thought on the two different brands? Performance, reliability, quality, resale value, etc...

(Not Vertex Comment)
I have gone through a few cheaper skimmers because I could not see myself spending that type of cash on one piece of equipment. However, ever since I convince myself to try one of the "entry level big playa skimmer" (ATB 840) I see why they are worth the extra dollars.
My ATB is the best skimmer that I have tried to date. I'm completely happy with it and if I upgrade tank I will be buying a bigger ATB or Vertex.

i have one of the new sro skimmers from octo on my system and simply put the skimmer rocks, i have had several skimmers in my day, been in the hobby since 96 and my sro5000 ext will give them a serious run for the money.
even my old mrc 2r beckett skimmer, sure atb are nice but they come with a heavy price tag $$$ so IMO... if you have the funds and want a the caddi get the atb, if your on a budget get one of the octo sro's or srp xp line of skimmers

Once you see the build quality of a Bubble King you will understand why they are so much money. They rock. ATB skimmers are also very good.
