Thank you for the compliment. our reef tank is definitely the jewel box of the ocean imo.

sticking to the back of glass - try Gorilla Super Glue Gel. Gel is the key. Be a little generous when you use it. once I stick the piece on the glass, I usually twist the piece back and forth for the glue to get a grip and just hold it it there for less than a minute and it will set. sometimes I do have a add a little more glue gel after the first try.

note...the challenge will be if you had to pull the frag off the wall at some later point. it may be easier if you leave a small section of the frag unglued so that you are able to get a knife or something flat and just pry off the frag assuming the frag does not grow over it too much.

i love having my back wall with cyphastrea, leptoseris, JF burning banana, Psammocora, stylo and the likes

I would agree honestly i think its one of the best looking nano tanks ive seen and im not just blowing smoke lol.

I used this for help holding my aquascape together and then have been using the harborfreight gel because of how much you get for the price but havent had any luck getting frags to stick to the glass. Best was the putty/glue sandwich held for about 3/4 days before it fell! But ill have to pick some of the gorilla glue up today on my way home!

I have been trying to get some sunburst monti to stick which is just the inverse of the burning banana! and some GSP that im still hoping i dont regret lol

also out of curiosity if you have to add more like you said do you just add it around the edges / bottom of frag?

Thank you !

btw...make sure you shake the glue well before using. otherwise the initial stuff that comes out will look like water.

I would just add additional glue directly on the existing glue. Then again push the frag against the wall and turn it right and left slightly to get it to grip and then just hold it there for a little bit until it stable. Once you feel it stable and it can hold itself up, it's alright to just let go and it the glue cure. it's alright to be a little generous to ensure it will grip but don't over due it as the glue could spread outside the frag and onto your fingers when you press the frag against the wall. it's simple and there's nothing to it.

Another Heater Down...

It was bound to happened. Luckily the temperature alert was on and I was notified relatively early. I was able to jump back to the house and swap out for a new heater within a 3 hours of heater going down. I am marking this down on the calendar to be proactively replaced in 2 years - 1/1/2022 :).

It's been a while since the last update. The tank has pretty much been on cruise control for months. I hardly touch the tank these days except for feeding, replacing filter pads and weekly water change. Beyond that, the tank looks to be growing nicely.

A number of the corals are beginning to present growth problem for this size tank. A few monti in particular are getting too large and I have been fragging them but it just grow back and I have very little space for frags these days.

The following are a few shots of the tank during today's feeding.

Cobalt heaters are junk! I had the newb move about 6months ago and never replaced my thermometer until it was too late. The cobalt heater setting was at 78. But was hearing the tank over 90f!

I would not say Cobalt are junk based on my experiences. I used them across all my tanks. They generally do last a few years before they are no longer good. The thing to remember is that as with any heater, they WILL FAIL eventually.

As a result, the best plan is to be proactive and have preventative measures set in place.
  • Replace those heater every XX years. I would based on the manufacture warantee as a starting guide.
  • Include some alert or notification if and when your heater does fail so it can be caught early. I currently have mine hooked up to Apex and the heater is ONLY ON when Apex turns it turn, otherwise it's off by default.
  • Have a new or relatively new SPARE heater always available!

Unfortunate consequence of a nano...

I believe this tank has slowly mature very well over time with both color and growth. Growth has been a lingering problem and as a result I had to start trimming back some of that growth starting with the awesome Purple Rim Monti Cap.

Below is a brief video of the tank before the water change and the hand size purple rim monti cap before and after picture. It's unfortunate I had to chunk a huge piece (about half) into the trash with the situation @ home. Would have liked to have traded it or sell with reefers here as it has excellent color and growth.

Any Houston are reefers out there interested in buying a piece next time for their tank, lmk and I can factor that in advance.

Before picture of the purple rim monti:

After the hair cut:

I also took the opportunity to take a few pic of couple of a few corals in the process:

Red TNT Anacropora Forbesi - this one has grown specially well and I just like the branches. I am looking to start fraging this piece soon as it' getting to be a tennis ball size.

Gold torch - this thing has been with me for years. Slow growing as heck but it does definitely pop in the light.

Update...

  • About a month ago I finally moved the tank to it's new home. The tank has not missed a beat.
IMG_20200725_203800.jpg

  • Growth continues and has become the biggest challenge on the tank. It's a good sign no doubt. The challenge now is to prune/frag things down. The challenge with that is I have no room for the frags :(.
  • It's now hard to put my hands in the tank even for just cleaning without somehow breaking a coral in the process.
  • Outside of that, this is one of my most colorful tank.
  • Below is a few shots I took during feeding. I would have tried video but it turned out blurry.

Awesome tank
Thank you. The tank has turned out nicely.

Your tank is packed and absolutely beautiful! Love the pics :)

Thank you. Yes, unfortunately that is the challenge with growth. I feel bad for the four fish in there as their swimming space have been reduced a bit.

New batches of babies Rock Flower Anemones Discovery!

The tank has had Rock Flower Anemones for some time and many of them have grown very large. I also know and see baby rock flow anemones on/off over time. I usually see a few baby rock anemones here and there.

However, i have never seen a dozen or more of them all at the same time or in the same area UNTIL NOW. During his weekend's water change is when I noticed it. Below is a very bad pics of them with my camera phone.

I am was so excited to have seen so many little rock flower anemones. Whether all of these will grow out is to be seen.

Wow...end of 2020. Two and half years this tank has been up and it's going strong.

Corals:

Not much has changed on this tank. Growth has been strong and I do have to frag monti (plating mostly) regularly to keep things from over grown. I am looking to frag again next week during a water change to make room. The slowest grower so far has been Beach Bum montipora, Supernova montipora and the Golden Goose millepora.

I had frag the golden goose acro and that has been doing well in the WB190.5. Since then I have moved the complete piece there. I am looking to the move Beach Bum and Supernova montipora out in the coming weeks if the remaining Golden Goose milli growth increase as well.

The red TNT anacropora has been loving it here. I had to remove a hand wide size colony to the WB190.5 to make room a week ago. What's in the picture below is a few frags i kept around.

Equipment:
I have replaced the MP10 default filters with Neat Aquatics Urchin Wide Flow Pump Guard and Wavemaker Guards NemProtect Powerhead Guard. I have been using the default filter up to this point as it does capture detritus very well. However with this much corals, I felt removing waste has not been much of an issue. The filters in the back is doing a good job.

This is the hand size piece of the red tnt anacro I mentioned earlier. Lovely piece I moved to the WB190. I was moving some pieces around and thought I snap a quick shot.
