I got a Fluval 5 gallon book shelf tank for my work desk, at work. My boss had no idea what he was allowing when he said sure, you can have a small tank in your office. It has been a train wreck. The backspace is SOOO tiny. My 150$ cheap office tank fluval spec, has turned into a money pit quite quickly. And I am still very frustrated at this point with it. I grabbed rock out of my tank at home. But I decided I need something that is more rock like that I could stick to the glass. So tunze rock it was. I got the large one. I loved it. So than i got the smaller one to add to the overflow area and just had to shave down a few cm on each side to make it fit on the end. Great. I could take out some of the rock in the tank to free up some real estate. Bought some expensive tiny frag rock thing that works great but deff is not like the fiji rock of the old days. This stuff is heavy and not porous. So I decided I needed an external chamber for pods/algae. I added a poseidon macro algae 1 gallon jar AIO that is GREAT that I am feeding thru a pump in the tiny chamber. Looked so great and worked so great, I decided I could use a secondary one to add some rock but at a 100$ each, I figured I could maybe DIY a lid. Nope, but poseidon does sell the l lids seperate of a jar for like 40$. So I bought a secondary lid and bought a second gallon jar, threw in some caribesea rock rubble. That was a big improvement. Of course, amazon was selling that gallon jar the cheapest, literally bought 2 for the same price as one locally. So I have a second one gallon that replaced my small pickel jar that was my auto top off to a gallon jar. Then I won a 'box' from bulkreef and it had a sicce uv clarifier in it, as well as tons of other stuff. Again - THANK YOU @BULKREEF. ThoughT why not throw this on my 5 gallon, now with the two extra gallon containers. Little bit overkill, but why not. That little AIO overflow space is TINY, but I was able to take out the tiny fluval pump that was feeding the two external gallon poseidon reactor chambers and drop in the sicce pump that came with the uv clarifier in the first chamber. IT FIT! And increased the flow SO much. And low and behold. WOW. What a difference THAT made.

But looking at my simple tank... it has become a monster and anyone who walks in my office sees this mess.I want to hide all this stuff down below a tank in my office from everyone so they don't know how much is really invested in this tank. I feel like I need to hide my tank from my coworkers, like I am hiding my home tank cost/upkeep from my husband :)

I need a 7 to 8 gallon drilled reef ready tank. I do not want an AIO. I think after this, I will never by another AIO. Reef ready nano. Legit nano. Under 10 gallons. I can't find one. Does anyone make one? I can still use my work cabinet and drill a hole in the back, hide all this stuff down below. Plus add a MUCH needed skimmer.

Assure your boss, "I can make this 5-gallon tank a success, even if it takes the last dime this company has in the budget❗️" 🤣

A 25watt generic heater. I am having more issues with the tank being too warm, but I am in Texas. And I put the tank near a window. Inkbird is working great to make sure the tank doesnt get too hot though due to the heater which has been an issue in the past with these heaters in nanos. I have fried a tank or two over the years.

I am going to upgrade to the cooling/heating inkbird so I can control a fan off it. The generic seperate smart plug I added to the inkbird app is failing a bit too much with being able to connect to my works wifi. My fan doesn't get shut off and I get a message that the task is failing for turning off and on my external fan. I would guess a security setting that the plug is failing. The inkbird doesn't seem to run into that issue with my company wifi.
