I was wondering what eels are on the more peaceful side that could fit in a 108 gallon tank. I wanna keep an eel for a long time and don’t want to get a fish that I had to swap out just to fit in a tank. I don’t have any other stocking list and I was thinking I could plan my stocking list around this eel probably just other classic fish. (Yellow Tang) (Clown) and I’m definitely wanting a reef tank, not fish only. Any ideas? I was thinking skeletor eel or zebra moray, but they both seem to be too small according to liveaquaria. The skeletor only grows up to 2 feet so I’m surprised that it needs 125 gallons. Thanks!

Snowflake moray… get a small one, will take years to get too big
Have had mine for years with some small fish without problems… also have a zebra that is almost 2ft in a 120g tank, (separate tank) but I think the snowflake is a better option for you

Did it ever eat any crustaceans? I mean, obviously, most eels diets are crustaceans, but did you have any major problems with the eel taking out your cleanup crew?

Never really worried about it,
usually add new/replacement/additional crabs and snails every year or so

2 foot is big but I would say a 4 foot tank is enough. Look for any eel within the genus Echidna. This is includes the skeletor and the snowflake. They all grow to 2-3 feet and are relatively fish safe. Be aware that any sick fish or any fish that is slow and small may be eaten.

I had a Hawaiian dwarf golden eel for about 10 years. Only grew to about 14" and a little thicker than a pencil.

Zebras are huge. Skeletors are so hard to find. Every time Ive tried Dr Reef for one (since they are the only that claim to have them) I get told they sont and cant get one. So I would take that off the list too. Snowflake is really your best option, but they eat crabs, shrimps. So thats something to think about. Golden dwarfs are pretty much non existent with Hawaii closed.
