Hey everyone newer reefer here and looking to change salt. I started with reef crystals just bc it was easiest and cheapest to get but looking to get a better kind. I know there is 1000 different answers and option but want best for mixed reef with good elements. I 2 part dose but magnesium levels drop when I don’t dose it a lot. Currently have a little ugly stage with new tank of a little of cyano but dosing bacteria and added copedpods. Want best salt for elements, storing and mixing ideally. Thanks!

I go back to the best salt is the one that mixes to the alk you want to maintain.

I don't know if there's a decidedly BAD brand out there.... so if you like 9 ALK, find a salt that mixes there, makes your life easier!

Wow glad I got this thread I had no idea that IO increased by 30$?! Maybe I’ll still stick with it but not sure the difference between reef crystals and the purple box

From my experience IO mixes at about 8.5 dkH for me. Reef Crystals mixes at about 10 dkH.

Totally agree with picking a salt that mixes at your desired dkH. If your tank happens to go half way between IO and Reef Crystals than combine both salts for your water changes 😊

Hi @allof fish

I encourage you to check out our range of salts — especially Hybrid Pro Salt, which contains nitrifying bacteria to support a healthy biological balance:

You can also check the exact parameters of any salt batch before purchasing. All you need is the batch number, which you can enter on our website.

If you have any questions or need help choosing the right salt for your setup, feel free to reach out!
