I am currently in the process of setting up my new 40 gallon system that will replace my 55 gallon. I decided to change sizes because the 55 is way to narrow in my opinion. Here is a couple pics of my 55 as of today

Please pardon all the algae everywhere, my fuge light recently broke and I’m waiting to add it until I get the new system set up. Here is some pics of my 40B and 20g long diy sump

Currently debating between 2-part or kalk in an ato, leaning towards kalkwasser because it seems easier. Don’t have a lot of corals right now, holding off on buying some until I get the new system online, just waiting for the Stand and overflow kit to come in the mail and then i will get things moving again.
Stock list 55g: 1 melanurus wrasse, 1 flame hawk, 2 clowns, 1 coral beauty angel, red montipora, gsp, acan, and a kelly green psammocora. Equipment list: eshopps s-120 skimmer, mag 7 pump, jebao wp-25 wavemaker, maxspect rsx-200 led fixture.

I am with you in not liking a narrow tank. My old system was 72"x18"x21" and I learned to not like the 18" front to back. So little room to work with!

Instead, I overcompensated on my newer build and went with a 60"x30"x24" and love it!

I tried using kalk in my ATO but found my evaporation rate wasn't consistent so my alk and calc would drift all over. Now I dose kalkwasser for the pH boost (70 times per day) and make for the rest of my demand by dosing 2-part. That has worked very well for me.

Update: 40 gallon has been up and running for 2 days everything looks amazing and chaeto and Refugium light are on the way

Thanks, it’s so much easier to make a nice scape in the 40 as compared to the 55 gallon

Originally bought a stand from petco but the tank hung off of it a half inch so i returned it and built the stand out of 2x4s and skinned it in plywood boards

Update: Fuge light and chaeto came in about a week ago, seeing great chaeto growth started with a sand which bag full now its atleast tripled in size

Update: got some new frags in, have had them for a couple weeks now, all doing well, I got one garf bonsai, a forest fire digi, and I need somebody to help me Id the other acro I got

Lost both my coral beauty and Melanurus wrasse recently [emoji853][emoji853] two of my oldest fish. Think it was internal parasite so I dosed prazipro and fed metro and now all other fish are looking good.

Got the parasite from not QTing new arrivals which is a lesson learned
