Howdy,

I am finally inquiring for some help.

My reefer 425 has been setup for roughly 3 months now, I used cured rock (brute can cycle) and seeded with 30 gallons of established tank water and tons of beneficial bacteria. The tank started clear but than got a slight haze to it, I thought it was due to my protein skimmer overflowing once or twice, but I have now since gotten that very under control. I have a carbon reactor that I recently added in hopes that it would clear the water up with no luck. I am starting to worry that the reefer roller mat is the issue and is just not cutting it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Had the same issue.

I set up a Reefer 625 a year ago, with a ReefMat and Red Sea skimmer. I too had cloudy water.

Bought a $30 Coodia UV sterilizer from Amazon and it completely cleared it up in 3-4 days. I’ve run it 24/7 since (in the sump). Not for parasite control but just for crystal clear water.

Give it a shot. I’ll bet you’ll have similarly good results.

I doubt its the roller mat. If anything it would make your water more clear, but in my experience my roller mat had no affect on water clarity. If the carbon isn't doing anything, you may be having a bacterial bloom.

A 3 month bacterial bloom? Hahah the glass is always filthy, so I agree, it's my guess as well. But I am unsure what to do about it. lol

Without throwing money at the tank, this is my next step.... A pricey one.

It’s not pricey. Like I said, it only cost me $30 (a 2 pack of replacement bulbs is about $17 and I change them out every 6 months).

Cheap and easy way to clear bacteria and green water from the system.

lol yea if its been going on for 3 months then its not a bacterial bloom. What carbon are you using? UV will clear it up as well, but as you said its another thing you have to buy.

And just to check, its definitely the water that's hazy and not the glass itself?

It's the water, I clean the glass quite regularly. It may be an algae bloom that just keeps restarting.

I'm using brs rox

Seeded tank water? There is no such thing. It is not uncommon for new tanks to have blooms. What are your complete parameters? What is your light schedule?
