reefkeeper users with net module

hi
have my net module running except the notifications.
i cant find a email provider that doesnt use ssl .
the net module doesnt support ssl.
ive already tried gmx gmail, nothing works so far.
thanks.
oh and ive read everything i can find on here.

Yeah i ran into that site last night while searching.

It sure is frustrating trying to figure this out.

Running a non secure email server seems to be taboo today. I know that some people with those older super expensive printers or copiers that would send email alerts when they have issues also have the same out dated non encrypted mail issue. I am going to shoot out an email to a friend of mine who is a super genius when it comes to everything computer related.
If there is a way he will know. I do know that you can setup your own email server and have it relay the messages but that is probably not a road that any of us would want to take.

Ok so I got back a reply.
In his first email he stated that he was very aware of this issue as he had to deal with it for several companies that had older large printers that sent out alert emails. He said that he used Gmail for a time and that worked but then they made some changes and it no longer works. He said in some secure location cases he just set up email servers at the locations just to handle the problem and at others he spent time searching for email server systems on the web that are free and do not use SSL for mail. He said he located a couple but that he cannot share the info as this might compromise systems that he already has running. I guess he assumes that sharing the info on the web might send a bunch of new people onto these servers and they might shut them down.

He then told me to give him a couple of hours and he would see if he could find something that could be shared. I got a reply back in an hour and he said he tested this out several times and it works. So here is the solution he came up with, the only limitation is that you can only do 1000 emails a month on the free plan :p

Go To: https://www.smtp2go.com

Sign up for the free account using your regular email address as that is the one they will send you the login info to. This should also be the email account you want the alerts to come to. Once signed up check your inbox for the confirmation email and follow the steps.

If you get a message about enter a domain, just ignore it. He says it works fine without that info.

You will get a password for the account and an email smtp server address of mail.smtp2go.com using port 2525. You can use port 25 but he does not recommend it as he says that one is spammed to death. I did some checking and the reefkeeper does allow port 2525 so you should be fine.

The emails from the controller will be sent to the email address you signed up with.
So if you used [email protected] that is where the alerts will be sent.

Sean, I dropped you a message as I'm having the same dilemma, followed the outlined steps (I thought), but am still doing something wrong as I either get a 550, or 535 error when testing. IF/when you have a second, check out my message and let me know if something jumps out at you in how you have your settings compared to mine. (AND Thanks in advance, no hurry, just if you have a bit of spare time) !

You need access to a email server which allows/utilizes Non-SSL/TLS security (I wasn't able to find a public one) and the RKE unit does not support either SSL or TLS is what I think I've learned). The way around this was to create a Domain, create a site with that domain with access to an email server with non-SSL/TLS security, and then utilize that email server (with valid user) to send email notifications.

Sean, thanks again for taking the time and it worked like a charm (at least once I found a port Comcast is not blocking and registered my domain DNS and let that propogate).

Which email service did you use for this? I tried to sign up for the stp2go.com account but it wouldn't let me use my gmail account.

Sorry, I have not used the NET module in years. It will not work with the Archon and that is what I have used the last several years. It was still working with Timer Warner at the time I was using it.
