You have a sump?

Sometimes I'll take a filter sock, clip it to the edge of my sump, and then vacuum into the sock into the sump.

I do not have a sump, wanted one but the tank I got doesn’t have room for one
You can always just siphon into a 5 gallon bucket and then add the water back or use it as a water change, then there's no need for the sock.
