Tonight I noticed my reefmat was overflowing, I checked my tablet and I have redsea notification. My reefmat is jammed. OK, so I try manually advancing by pressing the button, nothing. Then I uncliped the take up roll and I can rotate it freely advancing new mat. I tried restarting it clearing the notification on the app and nothing. Do I need to replace the motor? I suspect i do. Just wanted to confirm before I buy one. Thanks.

How long have you had it?

Mine kept jamming because I put in a new roll incorrectly without realizing. Make sure you actually installed the roll right first, especially where it clips into the middle of the roll (the piece you slide into the bottom of the unit). That caused constant jamming for me.

Also double check that the internal and external gears aren't cracked. You can disassemble the motor housing to see if the internal gears are alright as well, I once had an internal gear cracked that I replaced which saved me from replacing the whole motor unit.

It's been almost a year. I bought it July of 2024 but I didn't use it until December 2024. So almost a year of active duty.

I installed a new roll a few days ago. It was working perfectly until this afternoon. I'll do some looking around tomorrow. I don't think it's a improperly installed roll because I have done that and the motor still makes a noise. Right now it does absolutely nothing.

I had the same issue not sure how I fixed it I just kept messing with it. But it should be covered under warranty. Contest the Red Sea within the app they will help you

Ya I'll mess with it tomorrow. I just figured I'd ask here first, the collective knowledge here is amazing.

My equipment is all Red Sea it’s a love and hate relationship. If it works it’s perfect but somedays it’s just annoying as F. I love messing with it when it starts acting up sometimes it gets fixed.

I got back into reefing last year after a 10-12 year hiatus. I'll say, all these app controlled things are a double edged sword. I really miss the simplicity but when everything is working it is nice.

Well I decided to go down to lfs yesterday to see if they a new motor, they did. A quick swap and everything is working now. This new motor super quiet compared to the old one.
