I have attempted to replace the fleece roll in my ReefMat 500 and appear to have followed all steps in the installation video I have watched (I have now watched it around 6 times). For some reason when the ReefMat rotates the fleece roll it appears to be rotating into the water which eventually makes it come off the wheel. It is doing my head in and hoping someone can help me.

Are you spooling it on correctly? Also, when spooling a new roll, insert the new end into the 'dirty' roller and spin it a couple times so it gets a good grip on it if that makes sense.

From the videos I have watched I cannot see what I have done wrong. It is starting to affect the tank with it not working properly. I am honestly lost at what needs to be done. It shouldn't be this complicated. I have attached a photo with an arrow pointing to the direction it is winding, which is causing it to eventually come off the side it should be winding onto

The back roll is backwards.

This is how it should be.

EDIT: Tip that I use to make it easier is to use a stapler and staple the new roll to the old roll then use the manual advance button to pull the new roll through the unit up to the back. Then cut the stapled end off and finish spooling it up in the back. Unless your someone who feels the need to clean the unit every time you replace the fleece it makes it much easier. I can swap a roll in 90 seconds now.

What I've found helps is to manually roll the back spool several rotations and make sure I can pull on the roll and the fleece will tighten and not spin on the spool
It's definitely one of those things that get easier after doing a few times.

What they said. I changed filter socks once or twice. Then it was Reefmat all the way.
