I have a jbj 29 gal HQI, I was curious if anyone set up a refugium in the back of theirs and if so how? I'm currently running the jbj nano skimmer and is very touchy I feel a refuge may be better, let me know your ideas

Wondering which would be better, I'm currently struggling with a phosphate issue, never had a nitrite or nitrate issue though

A powerful skimmer would do much more than a refugium.

+1 I agree, I would run a tunze 9002 instead of a refugium. I used to keep Chaetomorpha in the back of my biocube mainly for a place for copeds to hide its to small to make a noticeable difference in phosphates. Out of curiosity are you using RODI water?

I use to have a biocube and I used inTank media basket along with the tunze 9002. The stock filter on the biocube is simply not strong enough. Yes, I did use RODI water. Cant stress the importance of that enough...

I modded the return area of my JBJ 28 into a refugium a while back, but I'm gutting it this weekend as it's not making any noticeable change. I've tried a couple different skimmers and all that I've found so far have some trouble with the hood not opening, being water level sensitive, of making microbubbles. I'm going to try the Aquamaxx next and last. If that doesn't work, I'm going to an external sump and redoing everthing.
