Going to build a HOB refugium, haven't decided if I can make it work hanging on my sump or not. Anyway, I'm going to use a breeder box and grow light. I'm just trying to figure out how to get water to flow into it in order for it to flow back out. I was thinking an airline with small air pump that would hopefully draw water in as the air bubbles move up. I suppose a very small pump could work as well but I don't want an intense current. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Why not make one out of a HOB filter, like an aqua clear or something? Hangs on back and has its own built in circulation. It counts out half the work.

I don't really want a ton of flow and was thinking it might be a little bit more quiet. I've never had a refugium so wasn't sure if an actual filter would be too much water movement too quickly through it. But you make a good point. I'm always trying to do things the hard way! Lol

I would try to do it from an aqua clear HOB. You can adjust the flow on them (not super fine, but plenty enough for a refugium, and their largest model (the 110) is 13.9” wide with flow characteristics between 166 and 500 gph. It sounds like a perfect candidate to me. You probably wouldn’t even have to mod it much other than a mesh screen and a hole in the lid for the light, or attach it to the bottom of the assembly.

Happy reefing!
