Regal angel reef safe?

I was looking at regal angels and was wondering how they are with a mixed reef? Awesome fish and am thinking of getting one, but don't want it to eat half my reef. I read that they are reef safe, but have read things that say other wise. So, I was hoping there are some people that have them in a reef and how they have done.

I've had several over the years and they can be hit or miss. My first one was a model citizen, my second a total terror and my current one just likes to take a taste of everything but doesn't eat anything. My current one took a liking to my scolys for a short time but has now left them alone. Depending on what your pain levels is, I'd say try one. Make sure you have enough algae and sponges in your system to get them started until they take to what your feeding your tank. They can be difficult to acclimate to other foods. They are truly beautiful fish and even my wife like ours, half the battle.;) Zoacollector is a great vendor to look at for your purchase, great quality and pricing. Just give him a heads up so he can get you one, the quality ones take a while to get in. I'd definitely go with the Red Sea, their coloration is much greater. JMO

Yeah I was looking at nyaquatics and they have a few at different sizes. They have a Red Sea one at 4 inches that I was looking at getting at $100 without shipping. I just wanted to see what people had to say. I was going to get a copperband butterfly, but then I came across this fish and always liked them but never saw them for sale. Finally saw one but I wanted to see what people had to say. Thanks for the input.

Anyone else with experience with them? Nyaquatics says they already have them eating so that's a plus. I guess the only thing that worries me is if the fish will adapt to aquarium life.

Pretty good if you get a quality specimen from a reputable dealer/person..

I've had dealings with a few in reef tanks. Each of them picked. Zoas, chalices, dendrophyllias, and fleshy brains all got nipped, some got entirely eaten.

Like the previous posters said, they're hit or miss. My first regal didn't touch a thing. My second one was really picky and only ate pellets and also ate acans and zoas. So YMMV.

I have a Red Sea regal myself and the only thing it eats is Zoas coral wise.
Stunning fish and eats any foods that I put in.

Ordered my regal on Sunday from nyaquatics. Hoping to get it tomorrow, but don't think I will. Still says awaiting fulfillment. I don't know how long it takes for them to get it shipped out so I'm being patient. Really excited to get it!! Getting some herbivore frenzy to go with it to help it acclimate.
