I just received a pre-quarantined regal angelfish from Dr. Reef at Quarantinedfish.us. It’s in an observation tank for a few weeks, but will be the centerpiece fish of my 180-gal. reef. I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on good tankmates for the regal in that tank. I’ve read that they are fairly shy and peaceful, so big bullies are out of the question. I’ll also be moving my white-tailed bristletooth tang into the tank with it. Beyond that, let the opinions fly!

All fish are different so it’s very difficult to say for certain

My Regal is in a Red Sea S650 with a pair of blue throat triggers, emporer angelfish other angels and many tangs and and is very happy.

And have you ever seen such a sweet little face! Lol

It’s beautiful! I’m fond of blue-throat triggers, but thought they weren’t reef safe. No issues with them?
No issues whatsoever, there a mated pair and try to breed every 3-4 months or so, mating dances, digging a nest etc.

I’m wondering if a spotbreast angelfish can mix with a regal angelfish since Genicanthus are considered peaceful as well. Anyone have thoughts or data on that combination?

Pics of your new regal? They’re one of my favorite fish!

It’s hard to get a good photo right now because it only arrived yesterday, so when I get too close to the observation tank, it hides away.

So I’m thinking about doing the following for the 180 (6’x2’), in order of introduction:

Regal angelfish
White tail bristletooth tang
Melanurus wrasse
Two-barred rabbitfish
Swallowtail angelfish
Purple tang
Powder blue tang

I am going to add some watanebeis ( In QT) with my regal. I would do it.

I added a Regal(4.5") to a 109G tank that had 1 Copperband Butterfly, 3 Anthias(Evansi), Wrasses(Melanarus, Blue Star, Pintail, Magma) and a Midas Blenny.

Later on I added a Fox face, Blue Throat Trigger. After that, simultaneously added a Whitetail Bristletooth and Purple Tang.

I have since removed the Blue Throat. They are hogs and out competed eating against my Regal Angel. I feed mine frozen clams everyday and the Blue Throat just buried his face in the clam and pretty much motors it down. I don't think you got any hogs in the latest list. Enjoy your fish.

HOW MUCH DOES A FISH’S FEEDING REQUIREMENTS AFFECT YOUR STOCKING DECISIONS?
