I’ve had this algae all over my rock for a couple months now. The algae is pretty hard to remove from the rock. I used a wire brush and got a bit off. Just making sure it’s typical hair algae when trying to treat it. I got an upgrade tank and wanted to transfer this rock to the new tank.
Thanks!

At what level do you run your phosphate and how long have you run it at that level. Phosphate is algae food. Light is algae food. Maturity and stability usually make that stuff go away.

This tank went a year + without a water change, big mistake. When I measured two weeks ago the phosphate was 1ppm. I imagine it was higher before the water changes and intense cleaning. I have been doing regular water changes weekly or 2x weekly for the past month. The tank is two years old but transferred rock and sand from five-year-old tank. Thanks.

The algae seems to be a hair algae. A healthy Mexican turbo could remove from the rock pretty quickly.

I have a turbo that doesn’t seem to do anything with it, the algae hasn’t grown since I started water changes again but hasn’t really shrank either.
