A very healthy nem can sure sting. This is two days later. Just the clowns and their eggs belong

I’ve developed a sensitivity to hammers and frogspawn so I think the longer you’re in the hobby the greater chance of becoming sensitized to animals you many not have always been sting by.

Hydrocortisone helps but man can those sores get itchy.

My arm where I have tattoos has become more sensitive, unfortunately, to the BTAs the longer I stay in the hobby.

The only anemone I have shown a sensitivity with is the Haddoni, so when I have them I use gloves.

This was a large Ritteri / magnifica so similar in nature. I was surprised. It doesnt bother the wife but I was a tad surprised at my reaction. Usually I avoid it but I bumped into a bit, said oh well, until much later - whoops.

I've had a similar reaction with S. gigantea. I also think that area of the arm is more vulnerable because the skin is thinner (if that makes sense!). Also be weary of heart palpitations and if you experience anything like that, head to the ER ASAP. I had minor heart palpitations and visited a cardiologist who outfitted me with a portable heart monitor. Fortunately I was fine after a few days.

dang! hope u ok! I get stung my nems AND gonis, gotta become desensitized to them
Actually every time you are stung it increases the the intensity of the reaction. Your immune system recognizes the antigen and mounts a greater response with each exposure.

Yeah the heart palpitation is the worst feeling. I have this when I have the reaction from Haddoni. But it subside after an hour. Never have anything from Gigantea, BTA or Retteri.

Wow, good to know. I have several BTA's and a tattoo on my right hand. And I like to hand feed them occasionally.

Fear of the nasties in a reef tank kept me away from SW for so long. I’ll occasionally get wet if I’m reaching in to feed something farther down (got a critter carrier with a watchman at the moment) but I never touch anything without long gloves.

Love reading the horror stories though, keeps me honest.

When ever I clean my frag tanks or place frags on the rocks of my display , if I am not wearing gloves I get coral stings on my fingers or hands. The sting on my fingers sting for couple days then the skin around the stings begin to peel to a pretty sizable area and the new skin is dry and sensitive and that usually last a couple days then turns to normal. So now any tasks requiring possible contact with corals or stingy things I remind myself to wear gloves. Just another added consumable item expense of a long list of consumables

Guess I have been stung too many times by jellyfish. I can hold nems all day and not have any bumps. I do want to start using gloves tho. I just always forget to actually order them
I have gloves but stupidly I never wear them. I've been stung by aiptasia and bubbletips, aiptasia is worse so far for me.
