Removing overflows and patching holes

I'm looking at getting a used tank, but wanted replace the megaflow overflows and patch the holes in the tank bottom. My thought was to go with something like a glass holes overflow to save space.

So my question is has anyone does this - is it a bad idea? How hard it it to removes the overflow (will it leave obvious marks on the back of the glass)? And should I patch the holes with silicon and glass or use bulk heads for the bottom holes?

Not a big deal. Lots of people have done it. Gotta take your time removing the silicone, doesn't leave any marks. And for the record, its easier to use a bulkhead and cap it, that way if you ever decide to go back its already there, but you can use glass and silicone them in place.

Or you can use the holes for a closed loop set up

Yeah, thought about that. Think I'm going to stay away a closed loop though. Just less to deal with.
