Repurposing old shells/coral skeletons

If I have any old clam shells, unique snail shells, or cool coral skeletons laying around I like to keep them and place them near my encrusting corals to grow on. That way if I want to move a piece to a new tank or a new area in the tank I can just pick up the loose shell/coral skeleton and glue it where I want. It works best with fast growers like cyphastrea, leptastrea, and montis. Does anyone else do this or something else to repurpose their old shells/coral skeletons?

I have an old birdsnest skeleton on a 3" frag disc that ive been trying to get meteor shower cyphestrea to encrust on for years but its not going too well. I will try again maybe with something like looney tunes stylo.
My son really likes the 4" plate coral skeleton and giant mexican turbo shell I gave him though lol.
