Return nozzles

Is there and specific way I should have my return nozzles setup? The way I originally had them setup caused them to suck air from the surface so I repositioned them yesterday and that created a sand storm in the tank lol...they aren't pointed down but I guess how the water was churning it made the sand kick up. I have two of these in my tank for returns from my Iwaki WMD40RLXT Water Pump.

So then I'll have 4 nozzles and it'll just split the flow so it isn't as powerful?

I say try changing your aquascape to block some of the turbulence if you can. You can also let it blow whatever sand it's going to move it will eventually stop at a certain point.

Well I haven't add any rock yet...there is just sand in there as of now

once the rock is in it will break up the turbulence then you should be ok. You also want to make sure that since you moved the returns further under water check to make sure you don't drain the tank during a power outage. On mine I drilled a small hole under the 90º elbow to make sure this never happens.

Yeah I have the holes drill...I made sure it worked because I would not want a flood lol. Thanks for the help

You could try a standard outlet versus penductor which would slow turbulence down and keep flow rate the same.

Make sure to clean the hole periodically. They clog over time with salt creep/detritus/algae and will not break siphon.

If I still have a problem when I add the rocks I might just have to buy different nozzles and I'll probably clean the holes during water changes

yes the y adapters will split the flow up making it less forceful, but you will still have the same flow.
