Have you tried soaking your pump in vinegar? I thought I needed a new one too, took it to my LFS and they suggested that before buying a new one and it worked like new after soaking for a few hours. ( very lucky to have a great LFS)

If your return pump is not completely dead, as in still working, but not as well as new, maybe it's time for a cleaning and a new impeller.
