Return pumps are underrated

Okay but...gph is still gph, even if you had 3 running the pump you have would not even come close for 25% of the cost is what im saying. Also to build quality only so many manufacturers build certain components...its like comparing a German car to a camry..which one looks nicer? But which one would actually last longer? Regardless of head pressure even if you needed 2 to produce the same gph its still a ton cheaper..

Installation - head height and plumbing dictate the GPH. Hence my comment about application. Check the two pumps at 0 feet, 5 feet, 10 feet, 15 feet, and say 20 feet. Now what does the GPH look like and power usage.

The Jebao very well may be the right tool for the job on a basic installation. It may not be with something moving water two stories or supporting a 2" pipe closed loop that a 400+ gallon system is using.

But hey - at the end of the day we all hobby differently.

I understand but at the same time even if you had 3 pumps running at the same time and one failed you are still good.

And redundancy is a valid option if the design allows it. I've seen hobbyist running two Abyzz.

So max power usage based on it says 5300gph @ 31 ft of head max 165 watts. For those type of installs wouldn't ac pumps be better since they are better suited for head pressure?

I was running reeflo and Hayward AC pump and to provide 3000 gph at the head i have these were pulling 3-4 amps on 220v (7-8 amps on 110V) as these run 24/7 the monthly bill just for the display tank alone was crazy. 1 abyzz provided the same flow for less than 1 amp!
I replaced my sump few months back and took the pump for the first time for a cleaning after 4 years of use and it had 0 deposits of calcium on it, something about the material they use. Other pumps had crazy deposits ... amazing engineering and craftsmanship and dead silent. I dont regret the choice.

My issue with spending big money on pumps is they can claim they are made or put together wherever and you just dont know..because if the power goes off doesn't matter if the pump is 500$ or 10k. Ive also had alot more expensive pumps fail before cheap ones...and I have receipts for warranties

Power going off is no issue got a neighbourhood generator that kicks in after few seconds and a 30 amps personal generator for back up if that fails. Long power failures are a daily thing here.

you'll like that M2 once it's installed, I run a L1 on my mixing bin now, it's from an old set up and I still love that thing, going on at least over 10 years at this point. I use that for mixing then my old Sicce for slow movement lol Every time I plug that sicce in after mixing new water, I fully expect it to seize but it never does lol

Hayward pumps take waaaaaay to much power lol. I had one on my 5k koi pond so I get it

I have a Sicce SDC 7.0 in my UNS 120 5tr warranty. So 95 gal ish DT, 25 gal Sump. Run it at 14%. That's tons of flow. Extreme SDC x 2 inside DT for corals and critters.

Now as a back up main pump, should this one faiI. I bought a cheapie on Temu and that will last until a major brand has a decent sale. Or if Sicce takes two weeks to process a repair/ replacement and then I don't have to rush out and spend lots of $$$ while waiting.

Guess I’m an idiot with dual Abyzz A200s on a 450gal. One of the them also runs all my reactors and is backed up by a UPS. The separate frag tank is powered by a Red Dragon 130w, and the other two tanks are using Jabao pumps. The Jebao has been running almost 6yrs, non-stop without any issues! I believe the key to longevity is not running them at 100% — I run most of mine at 60-70%. And yes, you should clean them periodically (every year?).

Abyzz and Royal Exclusive are GREAT pumps!

I just put 2 amazon specials on my new 300 gallon. The Orlushy DC-5000. I ran one on my last tank and it went 3 years with 0 issues, still running until I break that tank down.

Quiet, DC pump with variable speeds

The 2 pumps basically maximizes my dual overflow volume.

Added the 1 inch Random Flow Generator Nozzels and I think its great.

Less need for powerheads.

I have 2 Jerepond 3450 return pumps running on my 180 gallon. I monitor the flow on each using Hydros flow sensors. Each is set at around 375 gph. One of the pumps is for an under the gravel return. It requires more power to deliver the flow I want. Without measuring flow I guess I could have eyeballed to overflow and guesstimated. As is I can set limits in Hydros and get an alert when the flow goes wrong.
