Hey guys, I have a tank that’s only been running for about 3 months but was all set up using very well established rock and is quite diverse already. I am considering an upgrade to a bigger tank 6’ 180 to an 8’ 240 do you think I could move the sand straight over with out too much consequence? My sand bed is about 2”

You can use it but I would rinse it all before adding it to the new tank

Just to rid it of detritus? Or what would the concern be?

As I understand it, it would be the built up detritus that can cause ammonia spikes and other nastiness.

Save a few handfuls to seed the sand and rinse the heck out of it until it comes clean.

I took all the sand out of my tank, and even though I vacuumed it weekly, it was still super nasty.
