I have an Innovative Marine IM112-ext with a RFS27 sump, along with the stock kit plumbing. I've got a skimmer, but I'd like to add a refugium. Has anyone had any success either:
* modifying the sump to partition it to create both a skimmer and refugium section, or;
* adding an additional body of water exterior to the sump to serve as a refugium?

I'd love some help. (And pictures!)

Thanks, Rocks reef! As it turns out, I decided the simplest way to crack this nut was to just kluge my skimmer a bit.

I have an old Coralife CS125; I extended the tube between the pump and the skimmer body to about 11", and hung the skimmer on the rim of the sump. It has some more head to fight, so I suspect I'll take a bit of a performance hit, but two days later I'm seeing decent skimmate in the collection cup.

I'm now using the remainder of the middle sump volume as a refugium. At some point, the chaeto might infringe on the skimmer pump, but not today.

Bumping this old post, I have the same RFS27 sump and I added a baffle from Octo Aquatics: https://octoaquatics.com/product/sump-baffle-kit/

Now I have a chamber for live rock that is separated from my skimmer. I’m thinking of adding a light and growing macroalgae.

How well does the roller mat work and was it a pain to get in there?
