They say our hobby is a rich man's hobby, I don't think so. Here's a tip of the day or the week. Do what I do. Next time you're at a reef shop drooling over that Coral. Get together with 14 of your friends and fork out a hundred bucks each and buy that Coral. Take turns sharing it, one friend one month then the next friend next month. At least you can say you have a $1400 coral that you got for a hundred bucks. And don't be afraid to ask a reef shop, "can you do layaway." I do. Brought to you from Dr. Dendrostein.

Tip of the month

That assumes that A) I have 14 friends, and B) they're all interested in reefing :p
Now if you can sell ice cubes to Eskimos you can make reef friends from anybody. Tell them you're investing in a coral farm. You guys are going to invest millions and make hundreds. What a business plan

I just thought of a better idea

If you ever go into that Reef shop and you see the tank of your dreams. Only $10,000, get together with 10 of your buddies and each one put out $2,000. What a steal, now you have a $10,000 tank only for $2,000. Then every 6 months the first buddy gets to enjoy it then the next 6 months your second buddy gets to enjoy it and so on and so on. Food for thought

You notice how I said $2,000 each, the math doesn't add up. Because the other $10,000 is your finders fee.

What a friend, right?

Sure! Let me just file these advanced divorce proceedings first... I'm in unless my husband murders me first XD

My heart says yes, my tank, wallet, and experience says stick to the $10 frag bin.

Skimmate, what's the deal with that?

On a forum, I won't name names. We were asked what skimmate remind us of?

Someone said, it reminds them of their better half in the morning when they breathe on them. That's what skimmate reminds them of.

You're killing me, you're killing me, just shoot me and get it over with......

Okay encore, that's it I got to get out of the building

There's a Russian proverb that says, if you laugh by yourself, your probably an idiot.

I remember the proverb, if you laugh by yourself in a crowd, you're probably an idiot.

So if I make it to Reefapalooza, no matter if the joke is dumb, no matter if the joke doesn't make sense, please laugh with that one person that's laughing. So they don't feel like an idiot.Thank you very much

A timeshare for corals... haha. I can see it now, "I wanted the month of April! I even offered to pay more to select my month.... Ahhh December is the worst month to have this coral! how do I get out of this?"

I can see a lucrative subset of the reefing community materialize to arbitrate on behalf of the unhappy parties and sell off the time share for a fraction of the cost.

Then coral farmers see this as an opportunity to up their prices. A 1" frag that cost $75 skyrocketed over night to $2400. Justification being, a $200 price tag is an easy pill to swallow when divided amongst 12 investors.

I don't see a downside to this! We've expanded the industry to include coral arbitration. Coral farmers are making money hand over fist and now have the capitol to set up shops in Indonesia and Australia (They can cut out the middle men and increase profit). Finally the best thing of all, the hobby can be enjoyed by those with less expendable cash. It's a win/win all the way around...
