Hi to all! And welcome to my wonderful tanks thread! The picture above is the latest of my 120 gal. It was set up in 2007, however, everything was transferred from a 65 gal. That had been set up since 1994. The big bubble pearl in the middle is 19 years old, along with a colony of RPE zoas. Several other corals are over 15 years. Some fish I have had since 2007, others have been added along the years. Fishes include hippo, yellow, and purple tangs. Flame angel, royal gramma, mandarin, barred gobie, spawning pair of midas blennies, spawning pair of neon gobies, misbar percula, 2 flame gobies and my oldest fish a blue/green chromis. Corals include the big pearl bubble, bubble, frogspawn, hammers, finger leather, Xenia, acan, a growing variety of zoas, 2 different recordia colonies, mushrooms, porites and others small corals. Lots of blue leg hermits and snails.
THE SET UP
The tank has dual overflows draining into a large refugium and a secondary pump sump below set up stacked. This requires a high tank stand at 40".The refugium drains into the lower sump by gravity. The secondary sump contains filter pad only for mechanical filtration . A pump feeds a chiller from this sump. The only other pump ( a large one) supplies the tank return and an MRC Beckett style protein skimmer. There are no other pumps or power heads in this system.
LIGHTING
Lighting was changed in oct 2013. I went from MH and PC combo to 120 watt LED's. I really like the look and functionality of the LED's, although I feel my corals are growing slower. I thing I am gonna place 1 250 way MH in the middle back to supplement the LED's for about 3 hrs in the midday. Enjoy!
